The CIC El Almacén hosted last Friday the premiere of the documentary ‘Canarias Amazigh, tras las huellas de los antiguos canarios’ (‘Canaries Amazigh, following the trace of the ancient canaries’)

An informative documentary about scientific knowledge around the different theories about the pre-Hispanic settlement of the Islands, as well as the historical heritage of the Canaries and North Africa.

Current studies place the origin of the ancient inhabitants of the Islands in North Africa, over a wide area encompassing the present states of Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania.

The great parallels between the ancient island cultures of the Canaries and the Amazigh communities of North Africa clear the doubts about the ethnic origin of the first settlers. On the other hand, the Roman and Phoenician presence in the archipelago is also verified and its influence conditions the current studies.
