More and more startups are set up once a viable business opportunity has been identified in a sector where there is a gap in the market. Sustainability is a common theme shared by many of these startups as they opt for innovative and in some cases even disruptive alternatives. Perfect examples of this trend are: Too Good To Go, Punta de Mar and Runnin’City.
Food wastage also causes pollution
According to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), one third of the food produced in the world currently ends up in the rubbish – amounting to a staggering 1,300 million tons. Just a quarter of this food that goes to waste be enough to resolve world hunger, and if so much wastage could be reduced it would, in turn, help protect the environment by lowering levels of CO2 emissions.
