The “Lanzarote Summit” sets the principles for a Sustainable Tourism Industry

Last Friday concluded the International Conference “Sustainability as a key factor of competitiveness for the development of the tourism industry“, which under the patronage of the United Nations, both through UNESCO and UNWTO, gathered for two days in Jameos del Agua the World’s leading experts in sustainable tourism from America and Europe. The Conference ended Friday with the reading of the Memorandum of Lanzarote, whose guidelines will serve as a basis for establishing and precisely defining sustainability criteria for the global sustainable tourism industry.

Two documents were also presented during the Conference: the “Responsible Traveler Manifesto” and the “Responsible Tourism Industry Manifesto”.

Any person can symbolically sign the Manifesto, which is hosted on the web www.manifiestoviajeroresponsable.es, thus compromising with a way of traveling that is aware that the impact it generates on the destination should always be positive. We invite you to share it with your customers, through your communications and newsletter.

For companies, the “Responsible Tourism Industry Manifesto” was also presented, which can be added to the future platform being developed by the ITR in collaboration with Turismo Lanzarote. We will inform you soon when it is enabled, scheduled for January 2018.
