Ecovidrio and ASOLAN collaboration to promote glass recycling in hotels

Ecovidrio, the non profit organisation responsible for managing the recycling of glass, in collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands and the support of the Insular Association of Hotels and Apartments in Lanzarote (Asolan), presented the Programme Glasstar Hotels to encourage the recycling of glass in hotels.

The Glasstar Hotels Programme, the first programme in recognising the responsible management of glass waste in the hotel industry, has succeeded in its launch phase with the collaboration of 670 hotel establishments in the Canary Islands. The initiative reinforces the commitment of Ecovidrio for the hotel sector, which in this community recycles over 12,000 tonnes of glass waste per year, representing 40% of the total registered for the Canary Islands in 2014.

The initiative was developed in the Canary Islands as a pilot, given the structural nature of tourism in the islands and includes the loyalty programme Glasstar, which provides the first programme that recognises the responsibility of glass waste management in the sector. In fact, 45 hotel chains like H10, Hesperia, Iberostar, and other local establishments have received the Glasstar Hotels stamp.
