The island’s environmental certifications regarding sustainable tourism are discussed at length at the University of Tourism

Last week, Lanzarote’s University of Tourism (EUTL), hosted a talk on sustainable tourism aimed at students and future tourism professionals.
The university welcomed guest speakers Héctor Fernández, CEO of Lanzarote’s Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote) and director of the Biosphere Reserve Observatory, Aquilino Miguelez.

The talk was an opportunity for third-year students doing their Tourism Degree to delve deeper into the topic of ‘Tourism and Sustainable Development’ and analyse the changes that have taken place in recent years in the relationship between Unesco and associated entities.

It provided the perfect platform for a debate on the island’s three certifications; ‘Biosphere Reserve’, ‘Lanzarote Geopark & Chinijo Archipelago’ and ‘Biosphere Responsible Tourism’. In depth discussions were had about sustainable tourism aided by the input from the two experts in their fields.
