#STINDUSTRY2017 – Sustainability: A key Factor of Competitiveness in the Tourism Industry

During the 19 and 20 of October, Lanzarote will become the world capital of Sustainable Tourism.

The International Conference “Sustainability: A Key Factor of Competitiveness in the Tourism Industry” is sponsored by UNESCO and UNWTO and has the support of the Secretary of State for Tourism of Spain. Countries such as Spain, Canada, USA and Mexico will participate as well as corporations such as TUI, IBM, Tripadvisor or Iberia. 

Among the speakers and confirmed personalities are Matilde Asián, Secretary of State for Tourism; Tomás Azcárate, Chairman of the Responsible Tourism Institute; or Yolanda Perdomo, Director of the UNWTO Affiliate Program.

The International Conference “Sustainability: A Key Factor of Competitiveness in the Tourism Industry” aims to promote and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and good practices among all tourism agents.  Likewise, it has the goal of promoting responsible tourism, the diversity of people and sustainable development.

Through the creation of a platform for dialogue, the meeting aims to highlight the importance of creating tourism models that are aware of the limitations of their environment, visitors and local community; as well as setting the guidelines for tourism conversion through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) included in the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the guidelines issued by the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism and the indications of the Paris Agreement (COP21).
