Conclusions of the 8th european conference on sustainable cities

The conference, which was held between the 27th, 28th and 29th of April 2016 in Bilbao, brought together professionals and representatives of European institutions, in order to discuss the importance of creating sustainable cities, not only for citizens but also for tourism and for people who come to our countries.

For three days, the conference hosted debates from over 1,000 local representatives on the key challenges facing Europe: the economic and financial crisis, the massive influx of refugees and the growth of anti-European sentiment.

A key finding was the need for greater participation by civil society when addressing these issues and ensuring that people actively collaborate with local institutions to exchange ideas and solutions.
