The 2nd edition of Re Think Hotel is convened; a contest that promotes the sustainability of Spanish hotels.

•It seeks to stimulate the interest of hoteliers towards the economic and environmental benefits of sustainability and energy efficiency.

•Conservation of the natural environment, use of eco-suppliers, selective waste management, use of facilities, employee awareness, some of the keys that the Jury will assess.

•The implementation of energy efficiency plans could save 210 million euros a year to the Spanish tourism sector.

•Big companies in the tourist sector such as Rumbo, Trivago or Idiso; or hotel groups of big magnitude such as The Ritz-Carlton, Meliá, Iberostar, Ilunión or Axel, entities of professional Exceltur prestige or companies such as Vodafone and Yahoo support Re Think Hotel with their participation.

•Tourism in the Canary Islands accounts for 31.4% of the total GDP of their economy.

•In 2014, for the fifth consecutive year, tourism has been the engine of the recovery of all the Islands’ economy. In the period 2009-2014, tourism grew by 3’4% average a year compared to 0.4% of all the Islands’ economy.

The second edition of Re Think Hotel has been announced, with the aim of promoting and recognising the best sustainability and rehabilitation projects of the hotel sector in Spain. This initiative, which brings together both the public and private sectors, aims to stimulate the interest of employers in the hospitality service towards the economic and environmental benefits of the implementation of these measures and to activate the sustainable rehabilitation of hotels.
