The Senate recognizes La Graciosa as “eighth inhabited Canary Island”

The purpose of the motion is not to create a new council, but a district under the auspices of Lanzarote.

The Senator for Lanzarote, Joel Delgado, has highlighted that this statement “fulfils the aspirations and demands that the people of La Graciosa have been making for years. This is a historic declaration.”

In his speech the senator acknowledged Margarita Páez, otherwise known as ‘Margarona’ for her hard work and dedication together with the members of the Citizenship Council of La Graciosa, led by Miguel Páez, responsible for the movement created in 2013 to promote this recognition.
