Lanzarote is awarded 7 Blue Flags in 2018

The Canarian Regional Government’s Department of Health is proud to report that 50 beaches in the Canaries have been awarded Blue Flags in 2018, which is one more than last year.

The Blue Flag environmental programme’s International Jury has also recognized 5 marinas in the Canaries. The islands’ Blue Flag initiative is run by the Canarian Government’s Health Department in conjunction with the Canarian Health Service’s Public Health Office.

The Blue Flag is an annual award that operates under the auspices of the Foundation for Environmental Education to recognize environmental excellence. In Spain it is coordinated by the Environmental Education and Consumer Association (ADEAC). The aim of the Blue Flag programme is to promote and acknowledge the work of local authorities, the local population, visitors and members of the tourist sector as they work together on voluntary initiatives to protect and provide education about the local environment.

This international programme awards the efforts of the local town halls and marina managers who work hard to fulfill the stringent criteria to earn a Blue Flag. Flying one of these prestigious Blue Flags is a guarantee of water quality, environmental management, environmental education, safety and accessibility.
