Tourism Lanzarote constitutes the Working Table of Sustainable Tourism

  • La Sociedad de Promoción Exterior de Lanzarote (SPEL), together with leading entities and various organizations involved in sustainability, held a first meeting today in order to position the island as a sustainable destination and an international reference in the field of responsible tourism.
  • It is one of the main products around which the insular promotion entity will intensify the strategy aimed at qualifying the tourism that visits us.

Within the strategy that Turismo Lanzarote is carrying out to create differentiated products that give added value and qualify the tourism that visits us, the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL) set up today, Tuesday, January 30, the Table of Sustainable Tourism work, which will also integrate entities, organizations, companies and establishments involved in sustainability, with the aim of positioning Lanzarote as a sustainable destination and an international benchmark in the field of responsible tourism.

Likewise, the creation of this work-table “is a requirement of the Biosphere Responsible Tourism standard”, the prestigious certification that Lanzarote has, in order to carry out “the follow-up and compliance of the action plan that derives from the audit processes and renewal of the distinctive, “says the CEO of the insular promotion entity, Héctor Fernández.

This first meeting was attended by Héctor Fernández and several members of the Lanzarote Tourism team, as well as the general director of the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), Patricio Azcárate; the president of the Association of Hotels and Apartments of Lanzarote (ASOLAN), Susana Pérez; the director of the Airport of Lanzarote and the head of the Management Cabinet, Manuel Vinagre and Cristina García, respectively, on behalf of AENA; in addition to representatives of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote, the Federation of Tourism Businessmen of Lanzarote, AETUR, as well as the Escuela Universitaria de Turismo de Lanzarote (EUTL).

Also, this first meeting was also attended by members of the Zonzamas Environmental Complex, Geopark and Chinijo Archipelago, as well as representatives of the Biosphere Reserve Area, Saborea Lanzarote and other departments of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, including the Center of Data and Transport and Mobility, in addition to the Arts, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT).

These work-tables will have among their objectives, through a close public-private collaboration, to share proposals and discuss the different promotional actions to be carried out with the main goal of optimizing and improving the positioning of Lanzarote as a sustainable tourist destination. The idea is that in the future, more entities, organizations and establishments related to services and benefits in terms of sustainability will be incorporated.
