The Cabildo of Lanzarote hosts the Act of Constitution of the ‘Canary Observatory of Climatic Change’

The Canary Islands Observatory for Climate Change was born as a collegiate body for consultation, participation, debate, proposal and development of actions on climate change in the Archipelago.

This autonomic institution begins its journey and will be in charge of diagnosing the causes and impacts of global warming in the Archipelago and determining the most appropriate response to them.

It also involves the integration of the Canary Islands into the Global Observatory Network and public, private, social and scientific bodies dedicated to combating climate change.

Competencies and objectives

Among its competencies is the planning of strategies against the present and future impacts derived from climate change and for the progressive reduction of carbon emissions in the islands and other greenhouse effect gases.

In addition, this organization will be responsible for making the diagnosis and promoting actions in the face of the different environmental and socio-economic threats arising from global warming in the Canary Islands.
